Black History Month Textiles Research

Just doing some light reading to keep myself informed while I teach.

African Lace-Bark in the Caribbean - The Construction of Race, Class and Gender feels familiar to me because of my Bajan and Grenadian heritage, I feel really proud of my ancestors and it makes sense that my Grandma, Dad and I have a connection with and affinity for plants.

Unraveling the History of Quilts and Slavery is making me really angry. I can't understand how any human can treat another with such contempt... The resilience that my ancestors had to go through doesn't bring me comfort. Black History Month can be a difficult time as we are 'celebrated' but the reality of what happened is worse than any horror film... This feels like it's lingering via the institutional racism that we now face as is built into systems instead of outwardly physically violent.
